Toronto's Award-Winning Condos

Dozens of condo buildings are being built in Toronto each year, each with their own unique flair and focus, but this week we’d like to showcase some of the most prestigious projects the city has to offer. The Toronto condos in today’s article have all received awards for outstanding design elements, community features, and project development. We’ll also touch on a couple of the award-winning developers who bring these projects to life. Join us through a trip through Toronto’s finest!

Most of our award-winners come from the most well-known institution for developer accolades: BILD. The BILD (Building Industry and Land Development) Awards were established in 1980 to recognize all elements of building in Toronto, from design, to construction, to sales and marketing. We will be covering some of their winning categories from 2019, and then a couple of other sources after.

Treasure Hill Home Corp – Charbonnel

Charbonnel 1.png

This townhome project is situated in one of Toronto’s most sought-after neighbourhoods: Summerhill. With its homey, village-like atmosphere, plonking a modern condo development in the middle would probably feel out of place, so Treasure Hill has taken every care to create an elegant series of 19 townhomes that will match the classic look of the surrounding architecture. Airy interior spaces, green-filled exterior spaces, and clean details abound creating a luxurious experience for those lucky enough to snag one of these boutique unit.

People’s Choice:

Aoyan International – M2M Condos

M2M Condos is a massive development at Yonge and Finch in North York, with 1,600 mixed condo units and set for completion in 2021. The building itself is made up of two tall towers, joined by a central podium that will include retail and office space. A transit score of 100 makes this location highly desirable. The combination of versatile spaces, numerous amenities, and its location bridging downtown Toronto and the northern cities has surely made it enough of a hit to become the Peoples’ Choice.

Mid-Rise Design:

Alterra – Wonder Condos

Now this is something we’re familiar with! A Leslieville factory loft conversion. In the tradition of other local hard loft conversions, this build aims to both preserve and present the historic elements while creating a new, modern space to live. The site has been home to various bakeries since the 1880s, and was making Wonder Bread (thus the name) up until 2014. It was then given Heritage Status. The structure of Wonder Condos keeps the red brick factory façade intact while adding on additional floors of a more modern flair. The builder boasts that amenities will be strongly textured with elements of the old factory to create a unique living atmosphere.

This Lanterra project is all about luxury. A three-tiered glass face makes up the exterior design which illuminates centrally located Yorkville. Everything in the interior is made for style and comfort, with world-class designers creating a premium living experience. Hotel-like amenities like a valet, porter services, and even chauffeured house car service make this a truly top level condo.

Other Awards

2019 Canadian Condominium Institute Condo of the Year:

Discovery TSCC 2231

discovery 1.png

This condominium complex is pretty average looking, but it’s the community that makes this Bayview Village installation so special. Four towers house a total of 1131 units just north of the 401 and east of Leslie Street. Condo owners can often find themselves feeling separated but residents of Discovery have built the fabric of a neighbourhood by welcoming new residents and providing a bevy of exceptional programs to participate in. A mommies group, social group, study space, movie nights, sports nights, and a variety of fitness classes keep residents active and connected. The management stays in clear communication with their tenants to make sure nothing is a surprise and everything runs smoothly. While not a masterpiece to the eye, it’s important to celebrate the human element!

CTBUH Best Tall Building Award of Excellence:

River City 3

river city 3 1.png

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat is an international, non-profit organization that deals with recognizing sustainable building and superb architecture, and River City 3 is the first building in Toronto to win an award from them. The eclectic building took home their “Best Tall Building Award of Excellence” in 2019 courtesy of its unique, stacked cube style design and sustainable building materials. Other features in its favor includes individually metered units, water-efficient facilities, energy-efficient lighting, vegetated green roofs and a rainwater storage system. River City 3 does amazing things for its residents and equally amazing things for the emerging east end skyline, so it’s no wonder it got recognized!
